Sázava steel suspension footbridge

01.06.2019

Sázava footbridge is a suspension steel footbridge with typical layout of 3 spans 22,5+60+22,5 m; total length 105 m. It is 2 m wide with pylons approximately 9 m high. The footbridge was constructed between years 1965 and 1969. After 50 years in service, the owner asked for major bridge inspection and structural analysis for determination of residual load bearing capacity.

The structural model in SCIA Engineer was created parametrically in Excel and imported via Table Input functionality, because the project was calculated on tight schedule and finding archive documentation had been a lengthy process. First model version was created from photos to get a preliminary model to work on. The model was later updated with measurements on site and incomplete original project documentation. Update of the model was also done by altering Excel sheets with superstructure topology and imported again by Table Input.
