Prototype: DWG to 3D model converter

Based on the Table Input and VBA macros in Excel we developed proof of concept, which reads DXF (DWG) drawings. In this case the DXF contains multiple storeys drawn separately in the 2D environment.

Storey description text labels in the DXF are read and from those the height of the storeys is identified. Lines of edges, openings and walls are read as well and imported into the Excel sheet with their topology and structural parts are identified based on the layers, they were stored in. The model is then created in Excel and with the Table Input feature of SCIA Engineer, the structural model is created in seconds.

This feature is a prototype, we tried out that things like that are achievable and we will finetune it when opportunity of using it on real structure emerges.
